Literary Device Analyzation

Imagery is used to is used to help the reader envision what the characters are going through at that specific moment. Hosseini incorporates auditory imagery in this section to help the reader understand all of the different sounds that Amir, Hassan and Ali are awoken by. To Amir, these are sounds that he has never heard before and so he describes the sounds that he hears instead of identifying the object making those sounds.In this passage, Hosseini demonstrates the effects of the war on the Afghan society and chooses to write about that initial impact from the perspective of an innocent child trying to make sense of all the changes going on around him because of the war.
